Jan Jambon studied at the Free University of Brussels and obtained a master's degree in Computer Science. He later obtained an MBA at the University of Antwerp. After a career in the business world - at companies such as IBM, SD Worx and Bank Card Company - Jan Jambon switched to politics in 2007. Before that, he was active in the Flemish People's Movement (VVB). In 2007 he became a member of parliament, and in 2008 party leader for the N-VA. On 25 May 2014 he was re-elected from the list pusher's place in the province of Antwerp. He received no less than 29,616 preference votes. He is also politically active locally. From 2007 to 2012 he was alderman for Finance and Local Economy in Brasschaat. He has been mayor of Brasschaat since 2013.

Jan Jambon was Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Security and Home Affairs in the "Swedish" government of Michel I. After the fall of the federal government at the end of 2018, he returned to the House. Since 2 October 2019, Jan Jambon has been Minister-President of Flanders.
