Statement by EUROCHAMBRES President, Christoph Leitl, on the EU-India Summit

11/05/2021

In times of a global pandemic, the EU-India Summit was more important than ever to build on the reliability and value of our strategic partnership. Chambers applaud much needed efforts by leaders to deepen our economic cooperation, such as through a better protection of our food products, negotiations for an investment agreement or relaunching negotiations for a comprehensive trade agreement. However, sustained efforts post-Summit will be needed for these negotiations to bring about the expected boost to the economic recovery on both sides. The European business community also stands ready to support the EU and India in implementing their connectivity strategies and partnerships, and addressing global issues, such as the green and digital transition. We look to the Summit to give much-needed impetus for closer cooperation between the EU and India on effective multilateralism, including WTO reform.’’
