Luxembourg Sustainable Business Principles: Our Common 2030 Goal, together towards a sustainable future
The Luxembourg Sustainable Business Principles have been established by the Chamber in line with the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (Agenda 2030).
Designed as a compass, based on the four pillars of sustainable development (Governance, Prosperity, Planet, People), 10 guiding principles have been defined to guide and provide a strategic and coherent vision of the implementation of sustainable development by companies. They allow for the anticipation of regulations, meeting the expectations of various stakeholders, and seizing related opportunities for growth.
A project by companies for companies, gravitating around a common goal
A working group dedicated to sustainable development was launched by the Chamber of Commerce in the autumn 2020. The initiative relies on the direct contribution of the CEOs from 23 pilot companies from industry, transport, and banking and insurance. Focusing on the needs and priorities of companies to contribute to sustainable development and taking into account the rapidly evolving regulatory agenda, the working group established a bottom-up approach that conveys the voice and beliefs of companies through 10 guiding and common principles for the Luxembourg business community.
In addition to the pilot companies, the Chamber of Commerce's working group capitalises on the vast Luxembourg ecosystem involved in this field by involving all key stakeholders committed to sustainable development and CSR.
The Luxembourg Sustainable Business Principles aim to mobilise companies in the Grand Duchy around sustainable development and to propose a common goal for 2030 in this major strategic subject area.
Supporting the sustainable transition of companies through a new support plan
In the second phase that has just been launched, the working group is co-constructing, with expert partners and pilot companies, a support plan on the 10 guiding principles to support the national business community in the assimilation and operational implementation of the Luxembourg Sustainable Business Principles.
